tape deck makes a clicking noise when i put a tape in?

Just bought a car thar has a tape deck in it. When I try to insert a tape it makes a clicking noise a bunch of times doesn’t play the tape and ejects it. How do I fix it?

The rubber bands that turn the tape get old and dry rot,then break.Easiest thing to do is get a new radio.Or take the unit out of the car,take the casing off and remove the broken bands.Go to the hardware store to the rubber O-ring section and get bands the same size as the broken ones and replace.
